2021 was another busy year for new book releases! Just reflecting on my 2021 anticipated fiction titles list before I start putting one together for this year….

Did you end up reading many of the books you were most excited about from 2021?

I didn’t! Although I wasn’t really expecting to. At the start of that year, I made a list of about 30 fiction titles I  was looking forward to (posted on Instagram and below).

I only read about 5 of them! Of 40 books I read in total…. I had a lot of backlist going on last year from years and sometimes decades ago. That did work very well for me too, it was a good reading year

No particular order, here’s what I did read from my 2021 new book release list:

  1. Filthy Animals – Brandon Taylor
  2. Open Water – Caleb Azumah Nelson  Spoke a bit about this gem here
  3. In The Palace Of Flowers -Victoria Princewill-  Beautiful writing, a few words here
  4. Seven Days In June – Tia Williams
  5. How The One Armed Sister Sweeps Her House- Cherie Jones – This was non stop, in a good way

A few from the list that I still might read

  1. This One Sky Day – Leone Ross
  2. Harlem Shuffle – Colson Whitehead
  3. Luster – Raven Leilani
  4. The Art Of Losing – Alice Zeniter
  5. Bernard And The Cloth Monkey – Judith Bryan
  6. Afterparties – Anthony Veasna So
  7. The Woman In The Purple Skirt – Natsuko Imamura
  8. The Bread The Devil Knead – Lisa Allen-Agostini
  9. Dear Senthuran – Akwaeke Ezemi
  10. Nobody Dies Yet- Kobby Ben Ben (now to be published Summer 2022)
  11. The Selfless Act Of Breathing – JJ Bola

What  2021 releases are still on top of your to-be-read-list now? Do you usually make a book list or  get inspiration from lists?

We’ll see this year! What will probably happen is – I will write another list of books I want to read in 2022 and the cycle will continue…..Again….Mood Readers unite! There’s so much amazing backlist to read too

I’m putting a list together a book list for 2022 releases but I am also chilling so will see how that goes. I started with fiction last year and didn’t even get round to non fiction so doing it the other way round this time.
